Dispatch is Monday to Saturday. Most cakes are available for next-day delivery nationwide, and same-day delivery is often possible within London for more urgent orders.

Made in London Since 2003

Kipferl started in 2003 as one of London's first dedicated Austrian patisseries. Today we run a restaurant in Camden Passage, Angel, and ship Austrian cakes UK-wide from our London bakery.

Everything we sell is made here in London by people who actually grew up eating these cakes. Hubert, our founder, is Austrian. Our recipes come from his family, from working pastry chefs in Vienna and Salzburg, and from the apprenticeship tradition that gave the world Sachertorte in the first place.

You can buy something called "Sachertorte" at supermarkets and big chain bakeries in the UK. Most of it isn't. Real Sachertorte is a specific cake — dark chocolate sponge, apricot jam, smooth chocolate glaze, made to a particular recipe — and you can taste the difference. Ours is the real one.

Sachertorte — Austria's Most Famous Chocolate Cake

The queen of Austrian cakes, invented in Vienna in 1832 by Franz Sacher. Dark chocolate sponge, layers of apricot jam, smooth chocolate glaze. We bake ours from the traditional recipe — no shortcuts. Available in regular and vegan versions, and customisable with a written message as a celebration cake.

Apfelstrudel — Vienna's Iconic Apple Pastry

Austria's second-most-famous bake, first documented in 1697. Paper-thin pastry — "thin enough to read a newspaper through," as the old Viennese recipe says — wrapped around apples, raisins, almonds and cinnamon. Best served warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Linzer Torte — One of the Oldest Cakes in the World

The earliest written recipe dates to 1653, making Linzer Torte the oldest documented cake anywhere. An almond shortcrust filled with red currant jam, spiced with cinnamon and cloves. Crunchy, spicy, unmistakably Austrian — and especially loved around Christmas.

Esterhazytorte — Hazelnut & Buttercream (Gluten Free)

Created by Budapest confectioners in the late 19th century and named after the noble Esterházy family. Seven layers of hazelnut meringue and buttercream, finished with flaked almonds and a distinctive marbled glaze. Naturally gluten-free and a strong choice if you need a wheat-free celebration cake that still feels indulgent.

Maronitorte — Austrian Chestnut Cake

A creamy, multi-layered cake built around chestnut purée — three layers of pastry divided by chestnut and butter cream, finished with chocolate glaze. Rich, distinctive and unusual in the UK. A particular favourite for autumn and winter, and a more interesting choice for a milestone birthday than the standard chocolate sponge.

Haustorte — Walnut & Marzipan (Gluten Free)

Our gluten-free walnut cake with red currant jam, marzipan and chocolate glaze. Juicy, nutty and gluten-free without any compromise on texture. Available as a personalised celebration cake with a written message.

Mohntorte — Bosnian Poppyseed Cake (Gluten Free)

Less photogenic, more delicious. A traditional cake from neighbouring Bosnia, made with ground grey poppyseeds, walnuts and chocolate. The poppyseeds replace flour, so the cake is naturally gluten-free. The best gluten-free cake we make — and the one we'd recommend if you've been let down by gluten-free cake before.

Mozart Torte — Chocolate, Pistachio & Marzipan

Inspired by Salzburg's famous Mozartkugel chocolates. Chocolate sponge, marzipan filling, pistachio cream — rich, elegant, and with a touch of Austrian theatre. Available as a celebration cake with a written message.

Vanillekipferl — Vienna's Crescent Biscuits

The biscuits that gave us our name. Legend says the half-moon shape was created in 1683 to commemorate the lifting of the Turkish siege of Vienna. Buttery, almond and hazelnut shortbreads dusted with vanilla sugar. Perfect with coffee, and an essential of any Austrian Christmas table.

Our Austrian cakes are made for travel. We avoid fragile decorations, use protective packaging that doesn't compromise on presentation, and ship via next-day courier across the UK.

• UK-wide: Next-day courier delivery to most addresses, with standard delivery available everywhere — including Scottish Highlands, the Islands and Northern Ireland (some delivery surcharges apply).
• Hand-delivered, not posted: We don't do letterbox cakes. Our cakes are refrigerated and packaged to arrive in perfect condition — looking and tasting the way they should.

How long do Austrian cakes keep?

Most of our cakes keep for 4 to 7 days when refrigerated. Vanillekipferl and other shortbread biscuits keep for around 2 weeks. Apfelstrudel is best within 3 days of delivery.

Do you offer personalised Austrian cakes?

Yes. Selected cakes — Sachertorte, Haustorte, Mozart Torte and Vegan Sachertorte — can be ordered as personalised celebration cakes with a written message of up to 30 characters. Heart-shaped versions are also available for romantic occasions.

Do you make Austrian wedding cakes?
