Dessert Wines
Austrian dessert wines are non-fortified sweet wines, which rely on exceptional climatic conditions only found in certain regions. Austrian sweet wines combine delicately the sweet flavours of tropical fruit, honey and nectar with refreshing acidity and low alcohol. At Kipferl we stock 3 types of dessert wines: Auslese from very ripe, late harvested hand picked grapes, secondly Beerenauslese with botrytis - noble rot - affected grapes, and the pinnacle, the Trockenbeerenauslese, where the noble rot affected grapes shrivel on the vines before harvest, resulting in the most concentrated and complex sweet wines. Rare and difficult to produce, Austrian sweet wines are a delicious accompaniment with dessert or cake.
Our Austrian wines come from small, independent winemakers. We stock all the typical indigenous Austrian grapes like Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, as well as popular wines like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Most of them are organic or biodynamic, and they are available only at Kipferl for UK distribution.
