Weinbau Christ, Vienna
Did you know that Vienna is the only capital in the world with its own wine appellation? And unlike other Gemischter Satz in Austria, Wiener Gemischter Satz from Vienna has to be a real field blend, with the different grapes growing on the same vineyard. Rainer Christ is one of the most renown organic wine maker based in Stammersdorf in the North, while most other Viennese winemakers are located around the Western or South-Western edges of Vienna.
The Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC is a field blend of Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Roter Veltliner, Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc and other grape varieties. Hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel, unfined and untreated. Crisp, refreshing, with grapefruit and floral nuances. A lovely and refreshing drink!
ABV: 12.5%
About Weingut Christ
Few European capitals can claim a serious wine tradition within their city limits — Vienna is one of the rare exceptions. Weingut Christ sits at the northeastern edge of the city, in the historic village heart of Großjedlersdorf on the slopes of the Bisamberg, with the Danube running below. The mineral-rich soils and protected microclimate of the Bisamberg have produced wine for generations, and the Christ family estate is one of the most respected addresses in Wiener Weinbau — Vienna winemaking.
Today the winery is run by Rainer Christ, supported by his father Franz. Rainer is a Vollblutwinzer — a winemaker through and through — driven by precision, balance, and a quiet respect for nature. The estate combines historic soils with modern techniques in the cellar: every step in vineyard and winery carefully reviewed and refined. The goal Rainer keeps returning to is giving the Bisamberg the attention its terroir deserves — wines that speak honestly of one of the most distinctive winemaking sites in Europe.
