What is Estragon Senf?

Estragon Senf is Austria's classic tarragon mustard — Austrian Mustard, mild, tangy and gently aromatic, flavoured with tarragon rather than carrying the fierce heat of an English mustard. It's a staple in every Austrian kitchen: wonderful with sausages, cold cuts, roast meats and marinades, and the traditional partner to Tafelspitz, Vienna's famous boiled beef. At Kipferl we serve it with all our sausage dishes. This is the original from Mautner Markhof, the Viennese house that has been making Austria's mustards since 1841.

Estragon or Kremser — what's the difference?

This Austrian Mustard comes in two classic styles. Estragon (tarragon) is the mild, tangy all-rounder that suits almost anything. Kremser Senf is sweeter and grainier, lovely with sausages, lamb and beef. Many Austrians keep both on the table and reach for whichever the dish calls for.

I inadvertently bought the tarragon

"I inadvertently bought the tarragon mustard; it’s in a red and white tube like the plain. But the taste is delicious. It’s subtle with a hint of sweetness behind the tangy mustard. Delicious with just about anything; toasted sandwich, mashed potato, add a squeeze to lift a sauce or gravy without overpowering the flavour."

Estragon is a big favourite.

"Estragon is a big favourite. Kremser a bit too sweet except with Weisswurst."
